Engadget has video from the June 2009 episode of Qore that shows the new PSP Go. It has a slide out gamepad, 16GB internal storage, bluetooth, and a memory slot of some sort. We’re naturally curious about its potential as a homebrew platform. Will Sony take the mature route they did with the PS3 and let you run Linux or will they continue the firmware arms race the PSP is known for? We’ll be hearing more about this platform at E3 next week.

Avi sent in his PSP as a status monitor hack(zip). He’s using Lua on the PSP, so you have to install LuaPlayer. The computer side is written in python, so it should be cross platform. Last time we saw a psp as an extra monitor, it had more capabilities, but it was limited to Windows. You’ll find the Lua script as well as the python in the zip file. It’s a nice use for an extra psp.

Follow along with this project and you could use your PSP as a display for your computer. The software, available for download on the site, gives you a 960×544 display. The data is compressed, sent to the PSP, then decompressed for display. Though that sounds clunky, the video after the break shows it working pretty smoothly with some Winamp visualization. Only 32 bit Windows XP or older is supported currently.

foo sent in this amazingly well done mod to add an SNES controller to a PSP. He was contacted with a request to mod a PSP for someone who had limited use of one hand. The PSP controls were too difficult for her, but miraculously, she could play an SNES controller well. The quality of the mod is very nice. [foo] has added a port on the back that the controller plugs into. Other than the port on the back, the PSP looks completely stock and functions fine. When plugged in, the cable and plug act as a stand for the PSP too.

Peripheral manufacturer Datel has been hard at work attempting to crack the PSP 3000 since its release. They’ve developed the Lite Blue Tool battery to force the PSP into service mode so hackers can run any arbitrary code they want. According to MaxConsole, Datel performed a silicon level investigation of the PSP’s chips to determine how to break into service mode. This means they decapsulated the the chips and reverse engineered any cryptographic protections. We’d love to hear exactly what chips were being used since some are fundamentally flawed.

dspmusic.org has just released the latest version of its homebrew psp music sequencer pspseq 3.0. with pspseq you can create songs with up to 16 independent audio tracks, use wav audio clips of your own and then modify them with a number of setting, or even use some of the built in synthesizers to generate sounds. There are strong looping and recording features as well. If you are into homebrew music apps on the psp, then this will give you a strong offering of features.

"krazywhiteguy310 let me know about the announcement of the pandora battery hack. it`ll cost you a sony psp battery to pull off the hack, but once you`re done, you can use it to jump start your bricked psp to load up a memory imaged designed to unbrick the psp. (I haven`t tested it, so i`m taking this on faith) excellent news if you`re bricked your psp.

Acimods contributor "blizzrad" has just finished one of the cleanest mods we`ve seen in a while. With minimal modification to the outside of the PSP he was able to add an external ps2 controller. This naturally took a lot of internal modification. the controller and PSP use a 25 pin smt connector salvaged from a laptop. The controller`s connector housing is from a set of component cables. Blizzrad has put together a great wiring guide for the psp/ps2 controller. it takes a lot of delicate work with 30awg wire, but he`s done most of the hard work figuring out what vias you can use and where you should route wires. We love seeing people take the time to document difficult tasks like this.

Sony recently announced that it is launching two brand-new PSP colors to the Asian market on January 15. These decidedly gorgeous shades have been named "Radiant Red" and "Vibrant Blue". Each will carry a standard price tag of $1.380 HKD (US$177).
the kicker?? Sony has no plans to release these two beauties outside of Asia at the moment. Who knows, tough, perhaps a surprise announcement is in store at this year`s CES. Rolling out new colors would certainly go a long wa to help spice up the PSP`s image in North America. After all, not counting bundle packages, we`ve been stuck with the same colors for years.

Looks like Sony isn`t taking a break from releasing yearly PSP refreshes, that is, if a report from Eurogamer is to believed. Citing "publishing sources", the site claims that a PSP-4000 will be released in 2009. while said sources did not offer any insight in the way of actual details, the 4000 will presumably feature slight hardware upgrades. We`re placing our bets now and saying that a built-in storage will likely be included in the 4000 series. It just make sense, seeing as Sony now has Playstation Store specific to the PSP up and running. Not to mention, if more PSone classics are on the way, extra built-in storage will undoubtedly come in handy. what else could they possibly add??
The same source told the site that a PSP2 is indeed in the works, despite Reeve`s recent denial. Assuming Sony stays in line with it`s yearly hardware releases on the portable front, it wouldn`t be a surprise to see that in late 2010. Games are already in the works, reportedly.

Sony says no to PSP 2. Recently SCEE president, David Reeves, has told MCV yesterday that Sony currently has no plans for releasing a PSP 2, when asked if they had plans on making a new iteration of the portable, he said "No, there are currently no plans for a PSP 2. I go to Tokyo quite a lot and no one has referred to it - I think they have their hands full at the moment."

Reeves said that Sony instead focusing on continually improving the current generation of the handheld format. As Nintendo has done with the DS, which has transitioned to the DS lite and upcoming DSi handheld, Son has released upgraded version of the PSP, which have reduced it`s form factor and added technology like a built-in microphone.

Reeves added that Sony was looking to find new ways that would further stimulate the PSP market, having already successfully launched a dedicated PSP version of the Playstation Store for downloadable titles.

PSP developer, DarK_AleX has just released their newest custom firmware 5.00 M33. With this update it brings all of Sony`s newest additions and much more.
Continue for more information and further instructions...

Instruction :
  • copy UPDATE folder /PSP/GAME/ and run
  • Put the 5.00 sony update as 500.PBP in same folder, or let the program download it for you using a WiFi connection
Changes :
  • 4.01 to 5.00 firmware
  • Bug Fix : when changing speed in XMB, and the PSP turned the brightness to 0 automatically the speed was reseted to 222 again

Note to pspstates plugin users :
this plugin won`t work in this firmware due to it being made specifically for 4.01. Running it in 5.00 M33 can cause problems, wait until an update of plugin. Or use the network update in 3.90m33 or 4.01m33

I would like to note, that previous knowledge of offsets no longer applies to 5.00. I have gone thorugh EVERY decrypted file in the firmware and cannot find a-130 (xmenu position) ye if you change the xmenu positions in top menu_plugin the XMB does move. but when you exit a submenu, it goes back to -130 like black magic.

I and other are working on it and hope to be able to find what happened to them. For now, all rco can be modified as a theme like the old days of 3.40 and earlier

Hey its better than ptf right??

*thank you DarK_AleX for such a quick turn around!

Good news for player who can`t be bothered with minor things like health points, Datel does it again. Their Action Replay pack is going for US$ 39.99, and includes a 1 GB memory card that contain the software, and a battery enabler htat will modify the PSP battery to work with Action Replay. Once the batttery is enabled, and the memory card inserted, the program will run automatically. You can add new codes by visiting the Codejunkies site via your PSP, or you can download them through your PSP and just transfer them. Here are the features included in the pack :
  • 100% code engine based game enhancer - no Powersaves
  • Includes a massive 1GB of storage capacity for game saves and new codes
  • Free instant code updates over WiFi or via PC download - no software to install
  • Incredible in-game Action Replay menu means you can turn codes on and off in real-time
  • Fluid, intuitive user interface that is fully customisable
  • Works with the original SONY PSP and the PSP 2000

Note that the features didn`t include the PSP-3000. If you`re planning to get yourself the PSP Bright, you might want to wait a bit before buying Action Replay as it may turn out to be compatible.

Recently Famitsu.com have discoveres some minor changes in the new PSP-3000 models firmware. although nothing to major its interesting to note.
The PSP-3000 has a setting for 'Color space' under the system setting section of the XMB. this can be switched between Wide and Normal. wide exploits the full color depth of the revised hardware, while Normal returns you back to PSP-2000 level color.
The 3000 firmwares has an option for Automatic USB connection. when this is switched on, the PSP switches to USB mode automatically when a USB device connected.
Finally, the 3000 firmware offers a noise reduction feature for video out. this is used to cut out noise when outputting the PSP`s video signal to television.

Japan is getting another customized PSP that nobody else gets. why we don`t, I`ll never know. But then again, would i really pay for another PSP anyways? Maybe, but let`s get on topic. The new PSP-3000, nicknamed 'Brite', model is Gundam themed. And as you might have also guessed, it`s part of the Mobile Suit : Gundam vs Gundam bundle that japan is receiving. The PSP isn`t great looking, but that misses the point. The point is that Sony is constantly making mistakes, and now I can`t even suffer through a lousy costumized PSP-3000. Click here to see more.
